📌 How to pick a deadband so a static threshold stops flapping
A static rule fires when a reading crosses a bound and clears when it comes back, and a sensor sitting on the bound will do that every five minutes.
The fix is a deadband: clear only once the reading has come back by a margin.
- Look at the noise floor first. Pull a quiet week in Analytics and read the peak-to-peak jitter on the trace. That is your minimum deadband.
- For water level,
2 × jitteris usually enough. For turbidity, which spikes, use3–5 ×. - Set the clear bound inside the alert bound, not equal to it. An alert at 1.20 m should clear at 1.15 m, not 1.20 m.
alert : level > 1.20 m
clear : level < 1.15 m
If you have a rule that latched Alerting for days, check the clear bound isn't outside the alert bound — that one bit us for a week.
